The Shortwood Green Belt Campaign is one of many campaigns opposing the demise of the Green Belt and the erosion of rural England.

Government Ministers have released their Regional Spatial Strategy (RSS) which has instructed the old Avon councils – Bristol, South Gloucestershire, North Somerset and Bath and North East Somerset (Banes) – to make space for 115,350 new homes over the next 18 Years. Government seems to be ignoring the global economic downturn when proposing such large hikes in house building, yet they are proposing to scrap some of our surrounding green belt in order to cope with the Urban Sprawl.

Bristol does not need an unsustainable urban sprawl of half-built houses caused by half-baked ideas. Have they not noticed that major housebuilders are currently slashing their workforce, and development is grinding to a halt.

Whilst we recognize the need for extra housing within the area, it is totally unacceptable to eat into the Green Belt which sole purpose is to prevent such an occurance happening.
